When I Let Her Out to Play
Inner Child Series

A series of mixed media paintings exploring memory, play, and emotional repair.

Rooted in the idea of the inner child, this body of work reflects on the parts of ourselves shaped, softened, or hidden through early experience. Through colour, texture, and tactile materials, the paintings revisit moments of curiosity, joy, and vulnerability, creating space for reconnection and permission.

The surfaces are intentionally sensory and layered, echoing the way memory is held in fragments. Materials are used not only for their visual qualities, but for their physical presence, inviting a more instinctive, felt response.

Currently on display with Creative Health Camden, the series sits at the intersection of contemporary painting and therapeutic narrative, considering how art can function as both expression and quiet restoration.

These works are intended to be lived with, as reminders of softness, openness, and the value of returning to parts of ourselves we may have learned to set aside.

This approach sits in dialogue with contemporary psychological discourse, including a feature by the British Psychological Society, which explores how play can enable difficult experiences to be engaged with more gently.
